It can be used for anything random that doesn’t fall into the other categories or anything important that doesn’t get finished during another time block.

I know the Catchall seems obvious, but is that similar to the Power Hour block? What do you usually during Catchall blocks?

Does anyone do this who has an outside job?

Just wondering… when do you work? Is that during the productivity block also? I will be homeschooling my 3 kids this year and trying to figure out when work (likely from home) will fit into my day. You clearly have work on your plate. Or do you do that after your kids go to bed? Thanks.

I think every mother deserves a block schedule, so we will have more time to take care of ourselves.

That makes sense to me visually but the block templates you attached do not.

Self management is the key to unlocking freedom in the modern day – if we can put in the work then we have so many options at our finger tips.
I often struggle to manage my time and productivity simply by overwhelming myself with the options. I’m starting a website that I’m gathering inspiration for (nomadboddy.com). Gardening, dieting, travel and other wildlife projects and mindfulness blogs – it’s coming together but I could do with some advice and guidance.

Have you found an app or software that meshes best with time blocking for household management/freelancers (such as Asana, Trello, Todoist etc.)? Ideally the 10-12 general blocks would be on fixed weekly google calendar, and then the most pressing to-do’s for each block could be dragged over manually from task lists into the block in a list form as a description.

I’m temporarily laid off due to the pandemic but working on a lot of my own things…sans schedule so far, which is tough! I’m really excited to see if this approach helps me be more productive with less mental burnout!

Yes, I think so. It will have to be adjusted for each person’s needs, since everyone’s schedule will vary…

I am struggling with working full time and maintaining a family of 6 (one child having autism). My husband’s work has him gone m-f, so I’m essentially a single mom through the week. I’m also dealing with massive fatigue due to histamine intolerance. I was hoping a solid schedule would keep me motivated, when all I want to do is sleep. I’m working on diet changes as well for the HI. Would I just need to adjust and make a new schedule every week to accommodate my work schedule?

Awesome! I’d love to hear more about how you help your little ones be self sufficient for 3 hours. My older kids are very self sufficient with homeschooling, but not the 4 and 6 year old. I find that in my productivity block I am not very productive because of people needing help with school work (especially math) and little things that come up with the littler ones, plus that I find 3 hours a long time for the young ones to be self sufficient. I am impressed that you get so much done while also single handedly schooling and mothering six kids. Please share tips on this. (Maybe even a separate blog post. I think it could really help other mothers working from home without any other support.) Thanks so much!!!

The kids are here the whole time and those blocks include homeschooling and outings/time with them. They do schoolwork during the productivity block and I work on stuff during that time as well. They are relatively self sufficient in school and I’m available for questions. Then, the outing block usually contains their activities like gymnastics, pole vaulting or piano, which gives me time to run errands and finish up other jobs.

You absolutely can! Block scheduling looks so different for each person but I’m able to get a lot done at times during their school time.

They’re here the whole time 🙂 They have their own things to work on for each of the blocks. Productivity block is school for them and the outing block is often their activities like gymnastics, piano or pole vaulting.

Homeschooling fits into our productivity block and usually takes only 2-3 hours if that. The kids are relatively self sufficient in school unless they have questions so they work through their schoolwork and then make lunch as they finish.

That’s often during the productivity block but often the kids all make their own lunch as they finish school and get hungry.

Homeschooling does add a whole new layer into scheduling for sure! I find that school fits into a 2-3 hour block for us and is usually in the productivity block. Outside of school time, I make sure the kids have plenty of time to play outside and do creative activities and these are often the times I get the most done

School fits into our productivity block and we strive to have the kids as independent on schoolwork as possible as early as they are able. Often, we complete school in 2-3 hours

Hugs to you! The baby phase definitely seems to be the toughest for staying on a schedule and it’s more of a guideline at that point.
