Hi. Just curious- why didn’t you include Newton mattresses? They are GreenGuard Gold certified, so I’m wondering– do you see something harmful in them that I’m not noticing? Are they “greenwashing?” Hoping to get a new mattress for one of my children on Black Friday, trying to do my research now! Thanks!

Thanks for the great article! Have you ever looked into Savvy Rest organic mattresses? They have been around for a while and have all of the organic certifications. Their main focus is latex mattress, which is what I am looking for.

Hi Katie! Always luv these re-caps…! Thank you. I recently racked my brain trying to choose an Organic Mattress…with all the safe guards…
So many to choose… and then narrow down which ones fit the specifics you want. (ex no thicker than 12″ & if they have white glove delivery up the stairs!) Narrowed down to Birch and Ghost Bed… ended up with Ghost Bed for the delivery.. I am enjoying this mattress. But for the future will keep these others in mind that I did not look into. Hi. Helpful article. I’m curious if you’ve ever researched the new CERTI PUR label that traditional manufacturers are using for their mattresses now? They’re saying there’s no offgassing. ????? Thiughts ? I sadly cannot afford any on your list here 🙁 thanks !!

What about mattresses that are advertised as “completely encased coils”? Is that the same risk of EMF exposure as regular coils?

Hey Katie… just wanted to mention that fiberglass in mattresses is a BIG deal… people have had to move out of their homes because the fiberglass particles got into their HVAC systems and was spread through their entire house and caused eye irritation, skin rashes, and breathing complications. It’s for the reasons that I thoroughly researched memory foam mattresses that don’t contain fiberglass before buying mattress for my kid.

I hate wasting good research so I put my findings in a table and posted it on my personal blog for others to use, however.. according to your comment policy I won’t add a link… just google JSnowCreations or “Which Mattresses Do NOT Contain Fiberglass” and my blog should be on the first page of results (hopefully haha). I hope you’ll add a link to my blog or at least take some of the info from it and add it to this article! Have a good day!

In reply to Katie Wells. First, thank you for this article, I have found a summation of the research I have reviewed, companies and products not previously found from my research. I have an adjustable base and am looking for an organic/chemical free mattress and the price point is a factor. I do not want to sacrifice quality due to this but in addition to those considerations I have back issues and a side sleeper so the more softer mattresses are better for me than the more firmer ones. I have researched certification standards (GOLS/GOTS...), mattress companies (unfortunately market specific), Consumer Reports Reviews, Big Box Chains, etc., and am a bit confused. What would you suggest, thank you.
