Am African and I’ve been eating with shea butter since I was little. Am 18 and my skin is amazing.
It’s very healthy for eating, cooking, skin and hair..
It’s one of the best natural oils and I love it.

It fits the criteria Katie recommends in shea butter since it’s raw, unrefined, unbleached, and organic. There are some shea butter brands that check all of the boxes but haven’t necessarily pursued getting a certification from ASBI.

Vegetable carrier oils (like shea butter) are great for our beauty & home care routines, for example you can make liquid soap, face mist for glowing skin, body scrub or even bath salts with essential oils.

They can also make great therapeutic products. For example, together with selected essential oils, they can be used in massage therapy, chest rub for colds, knee rub to calm knee and muscle discomfort.

On a personal level, I like to use carrier oils (coconut is my favorite) mostly as hand and body lotions for their deeply hydrating properties.

How do you know that it is ASBI approved. Thanks in advance!

Thank you for this wealth of information. I am wondering if you are still sourcing your shea butter from the link in the previous posts? I am looking to purchase for the first time, but don’t have money to waste. Some reviews on Amazon started off very good but have become inconsistent since the pandemic.

Thank you,
Nikki

I think it would help I you stopped using the lemon juice. It is known to be quite harsh!

I hope your skin has improved now!

We always had soft skin with no black spots. I started buying it off Amazon and my skin has cleared up dramatically! I used the unrefined yellow Shea Butter because it’s what my mother used.

My hands get really dry in the winter to the point where my knuckles will begin to bleed. I hope that if I start using shea butter cream it will help moisten the skin on my hands.

Hi Katie, i used to have hyperpigmentation and started applying a mixture of lemon and potatoe on face but then my skin started to peel leaving the new skin feeling tight, silky and it burned when i applied my mosturiser. I do not know whether this is a good thing and if my skin will be better…. am even afraid to continue using the mixture i still have hyperpigmentation here and there…. I thought it was helping, but now am not so sure. PLEASE HELP!! ??

I’ve bought this one on Amazon for years without any issues, sorry if that doesn’t work for you though… https://www.amazon.com/dp/B079T4ZTS9/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&linkCode=ll1&tag=wellnessmama-20&linkId=923c7c403743e6b7d519ffe795098ae1&language=en_US

When it cools I use a little milk frother ($2.00 at the Japanese dollar-and-a-half store, Daiso) and hope it comes out fairly soft but not grainy. It’s always a crap shoot how it will turn out. But it is still good stuff for the skin.

However, the last shipment of 2# of shea butter that I received from Cleopatra’s Choice (now something else?) was rancid. I told them about it and they sent two replacements. Unfortunately the replacements tubs were also rancid. I hope they will send an address to me so I can return them and get my money back.

But where do I now get good, fresh shea butter? (Please don’t say Amazon.)

Thanks much,

Doris Tuck
