I’ve made it both ways and it seems fine even with them.

I roasted the nuts but I can’t get the skins off> Is it necessary? Does leaving skins on make them bitter?

Syrian refugees harvesting the hazelnuts are being treated horribly, and not being paid a living wage. These are the nuts used in Nutella, as well as in products made by Nestlé and Godiva. New York Times story here: https://www.nytimes.com/2019/04/29/business/syrian-refugees-turkey-hazelnut-farms.html

Does Nutiva come in a glass or plastic jar?

I am one of the people that would have spawned rage at it. Wow! I knew it was bad, but holly cow batman!!! Anyway, thank you for the alternative. When I drive to the airport and 0-dark-30, I make a treat of toaster waffles, nutella and blueberries stuffed on top, (you were missing that way to enjoy it in your list). I have a love hat relationship woth the treat as it has so much sugar, but there is no good alternative to making the blueberries stick! So i will try this! Unfortunately I guess im too late to get a free one, but ill settle for the 30% Off thanks again!

However, palm oil is not healthy–a semi-solid at room-temperature fat, palm oil contains more saturated fat than many oils. I realize that semi-solid nature is what makes it appealing to spreads like this, but if you care about issues like spraying of soy, I hope you’ll advocate for manufacturers to stop using palm oil. The same goes for coconut oil, which is higher in saturated fat than butter.

I don’t understand why the possiblity for trace amounts at most in a little soy lecithin are enough to point out the potential for endocrine disruption, while definitely higher amounts from flaxseed were not even worth mentioning.

That in itself is misleading, rather like Nutella’s health claims. Oh the irony! I read all the way to the end, only to feel somewhat irked that I read a sponsored post.

I grew up with Nutella. My grandma always had it at home and made me a Nutella roll.
Great to you know you can make your own.

I love thrive market! They gave me a free membership and I always get a freebie when I order over $49. I was just waiting for the Nutiva / Nutella offer!

In this case, it means that Thrive is sponsoring the post financially and providing all of the jars of chocolate hazelnut spread. I wrote the post myself based on my own opinions.

I still would not consider any food with cane sugar “healthy” by any means. This food is NOT paleo…
Make your own. This is too processed.

I took advantage of one of their free offers before, then they took advantage of me by not informing me of the membership fee and not cancelling when asked. I had to dispute the charge with my credit card company. I realize there’s always a “catch” when something is free, but I did everything right, and will not do business with them again. I just want to warn others.

What role does the sponsor play in the post?

Thank you!

Also, the amount of soy used in an emulsifier like soy lecithin is not enough to create any significant phytoestrogen effect: http://www.dana-farber.org/Health-Library/Soy-Lecithin-and-Breast-Cancer.aspx

I appreciate knowing about the nutiva option, but some of the info about Nutella’s ingredients is not accurate.

I wonder why it has a dairy symbol of it’s supposed to be dairy-free / vegan?

I don’t remember the details on what fermentation does to soy, but it isn’t nearly as “bad” for you.
